The job

The school needed new fire doors across its classrooms and corridors. No two openings were quite the same. Some doors lead off a busy corridor, one sits within a glazed partition, and others needed a solid leaf with no glass at all.

Every door was fitted to the manufacturer's specification and finished with its ironmongery: pull handles, kick plates and overhead closers, with vision panels in the classroom doors so staff can see into a room before they open the door.

A school is a working building, and it has to stay safe the whole way through. The doors were fitted with that in mind, so the building stayed safe to use while the work went on.

A fire door is only as good as its fitting.

The door itself is only half of it. These are the details we get right on every fire door we fit, at a school or in a home.

The gaps
Even gaps around the leaf, kept within the tolerance the door is made for, so smoke and flame have no easy way round it.
The seals
Intumescent strips that swell in heat to close the gap, and smoke seals where the door calls for them, fitted in one unbroken run.
The hinges
The right number and grade of hinges, fixed so the door hangs true and keeps hanging true after years of use.
The closer
A closer set so the door pulls itself fully shut into the frame every time, without slamming on small fingers.
The ironmongery
Handles, kick plates and signage suitable for a fire door, fitted without cutting into the leaf more than the door allows.
